February 19 - March 25, 2023

On Sunday, February 19th, Fredric Snitzer Gallery will officially celebrate its 45th anniversary with a group show featuring historical and new works by a selection of our represented artists.

This celebration will commemorate the Gallery's established history in leading Miami's burgeoning cultural scene while highlighting Fredric Snitzer and his team's continuous dedication to Miami's art community.

Fredric Snitzer Gallery opened in Coral Gables in 1977, with subsequent locations in North Ponce de Leon, Bird Road, and Wynwood. In 2014, Fredric Snitzer Gallery relocated to the Arts & Entertainment District near Downtown Miami.

For 16 years, Snitzer served on Art Basel Miami's Board, and for 30 years, he has dedicated his life to teaching artists as a professor at the New World School of the arts. He has championed many local artists to great success, connected internationally renowned artists to the city of Miami, and continues to nurture artists as a professor. This celebration will, therefore, be one of a community Snitzer has built around him.

A community that has known the art dealer as a student in the case of the represented artist Rafael Ferrer, who taught Snitzer in the '70s, and a community that has known him as a teacher in the case of represented artist Noah Cribb. Fellow professor and represented artist María Martínez Cañas knows Fred as a coworker and long-standing friend for over 35 years. Hernan Bas began being represented by Fred at 19, and Emilio Perez, now based in New York, can recall Fred visiting his first Studio in Miami in '96. Represented artist Josè Bedia had his first show with Fred at the Gallery's first location in Coral Gables and was Tomas Esson's first Gallery outside of Cuba.

A testament to Fred's instinct and vision, he was one of the first to push contemporary Latin American artists, especially Cuban exiles, during the '80s and '90s. These artists can now be found at prominent institutions worldwide, like the MoMA, The Getty, MARCO, Palais de Tokyo, Kunsthaus Baselland, etc. Their success has raised the profile of the local institutions that first displayed them, like PAMM, The Bass, Lowe Museum of Art, Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, and ICA Miami, further cementing Miami as an art capital.

Fredric Snitzer is a principal figure and trusted leader in Miami's art scene who has invested in and helped foster the community. Join us on Sunday, February 19th, from 12 pm to 5 pm to celebrate Fred, the gallery, our team, and our artists.
